Our Bella Mia Christmas Party

Each year, we all look forward to our Bella Mia Christmas party. It's a great time for our Bella Mia Family to get together and catch up. We've pretty much got it down to an art: eat lots of snacks, a delicious dinner (this year, Arlette served her home made manicotti -yum!), maybe dessert if you have enough room left, and then we open our secret santa gifts.

It's always so much fun to watch everyone open their presents & find out who their secret santa was!

For Christmas this year, Arlette got all of us tickets to go see a musical together. I know we're all looking forward to another Bella Night Out! :)

Yesterday, we shot our Holiday 2011 Look Book with Michelle Lamarand Photography. It was so great to work with her again & we couldn't be more excited to get all of the final images! We set up a winter wonderland tea party in the woods & used our go-to model, Lissa. It was a little chilly, but well worth it!

We were even shooting during the first snow of the year! Very exciting... :)

Our Bella Mia Favorites!

We thought it would be fun to do a series of posts reminiscing on our favorite things we've purchased at Bella Mia. If you've been shopping with us for a while, you probably know that most of the girls that work in our stores have been with us for a pretty long time (which means we all had a tough time deciding on our favorites).

The first girl we'll be featuring is Samantha.

Here are her favorites & why she loves them:

1. Free People Embellished Sleeve Thermal: Her most favorite layering piece! The color is unique & goes with almost anything. Plus it's warm and cozy. Free People thermals are the pieces she can't wait to pull out of her closet on the first cool days of Fall.

2. Free People Slouchy Sweater: Another Free People piece that has been in her closet for years! She gets compliments every time she wears it. She wore it on a vacation to NYC in the Fall a couple of years ago & loves the nostalgic memories of that trip when she wears this sweater.

3. Miss Me Blazer: This is a recent purchase. She was in need of a sophisticated staple in her closet. She loves the versatility of this classic piece - it looks great with denim or dressed up over a dress or a skirt. She's already worn it to tons of events.

If you've been in the store the past couple of weeks, you've probably heard our exciting news - we sell shoes now! We couldn't have picked a better season to start carrying shoes - the trends this season are outstanding.

Here are some of our favorite styles this Autumn...

1. Spectator shoes - We’re obsessed with the retro, menswear inspired look of spectators. They bring an air of sophistication to almost any outfit. Our favorites feature two-toned coloring, adding to their versatility.

2. Bold hues: Let your shoes make a statement! Pairing a simple outfit with a bold colored shoe will instantly create a refined, up-to date look.

Teach Me How to Midi.

We're loving the new mid-length skirt trend (nick-named midi). They're comfortable, cute, a great length to run around in, and they let you show off your new fall shoes!

We styled two looks featuring pieces from our Fall collection: one for the free spirit and one for the sophisticate.

Midi Tips:
1. Show off your waist. Pair a midi with a cropped top or a tucked in blouse.
2. Wear with heels. Extra height will elongate your legs, making the midi more proportionate to your frame.
3. Experiment with color. Modernize this classic shape with a bold hue.
4. Layer and accessorize. Break up the extended length with belts, long necklaces, and cute socks.
5. Embrace the quirkiness of the look. If you feel confident, you'll wear the trend well.

This Weekend - Detroit Restaurant Week

It's Detroit Restaurant Week (through October 2nd), which is the perfect time to go downtown and try out a new place. There are tons of restaurants participating, and they are all offering a three-course meal for $28. It's a great chance to get a little fancy and go somewhere you normally wouldn't go. You can check out all of the different restaurants, along with the menus they are offering here. They all sound pretty amazing - how can you choose?!

Our Fall Checklist

Since Autumn always seems to pass by so quickly in Michigan, we thought it would be a good idea to create a Fall Checklist of all the things we'd like to do this year.

1. Visit the Cider Mill. There really is nothing like cider & donuts from the cider mill, plus it's the perfect way to celebrate the beginning of Fall. Maybe we're biased, but our favorite is Plymouth Orchards. They have the best cider, other delicious Fall snacks (i.e. apple butter and pumpkin butter - yum!), and even a little area with farm animals. It really is the cutest. Visit their website here.

2. Stock up on cozy sweaters. Is it just us, or are Fall clothes the best? When there's a little chill in the air, you can't have enough warm sweaters. We have some truly adorable ones in stock at the stores right now, make sure to stop by and check them out.

3. Classic Horror Films at The Penn Theater. Every Thursday in October, The Penn will be playing classic horror movies. It's a great way to get in the Halloween spirit, and may even give you some costume inspiration. We're the most excited to see The Bride of Frankenstein. Check out the "Shock-tober" schedule here.

4. Carve Pumpkins. One of our favorite Fall traditions!

5. Eat lots of pumpkin flavored treats. We're pretty much obsessed with anything pumpkin, and Fall is the perfect excuse to practice your pumpkin treat baking skills. We can't wait to try the Pumpkin Bread Pudding recipe we found on one of our favorite blogs, Cupcakes and Cashmere - it sounds amazing!
